Exploring the Langtang Region

Langtang region located nearby the Kathmandu valley, is one the best places for trekking in Nepal, and accessible by land or helicopter. Known to be the first National Park in Nepal, the Langtang exits of green valleys, huge glaciers, high-altitude mountain passes and rural villages. Walking in Circles together with Skyline will make sure you will get the best experience while doing a Langtang Himal trek. While the main Langtang trek route starts just about 30 km from Kathmandu, the Skyline team will make sure you will get the best service and guidance during your trek in Nepal.

As Langtang Nepal is less popular then Everest Trekking or Annapurna trekking, the trails are unspoiled and trekkers can enjoy the area without any disturbances. Langtang trekking package offers a variety of treks. Most common are the Helambu trek or the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek, but we strongly believe in making new routes to discover untouched places and give your valley hike an even more unique experience! Trekking in the Langtang region of Nepal is a great way to get familiar with Nepal’s great outdoors. The trails lead up and down, through and over rivers, passing stunning glaciers and go through rustic and traditional Langtang villages. Walking across the old trade route between the Ganesh and Langtang Himalayas and visiting Gompas and prayer points on high ridges makes the Langtang mountain range so attractive.

Langtang valley is also home to various high-altitude lakes, reflecting the surrounding snow capped mountains in their crystal clear water. One of the most famous lakes in the Langtang valley from Kathmandu Nepal is Lake Gosaikunda. With its beautiful turquoise-coloured water this lake is one of the major highlights! A perfect place to escape from the busy cities, the Langtang area is one of the best places to visit in Nepal.

Langtang Gosaikunda trek unites the outlying & picturesque ‘Langtang Valley’, with the high mountain lakes ‘Gosaikunda’, at an altitude of 4,380m. The lake spreads across 34 acres, with the spectacular views of Mighty Langtang Lirung and other sky-high peaks on the backdrop. The lake melts and sips down to form the Trishuli River and remains frozen for six months during winter from October to June. Hence, ideally starting langtang gosaikunda trekking from Trishuli River, north of Kathmandu, we travel through Dhunche to Syabru Bensi, a Sherpa village placed at the edge of “The Langtang National Park”. Passing along the dense oak & rhododendron forests and even the glacial moraine at places, we make it to the popular Tamang village of Langtang.

We extend langtang gosaikunda with overnight stay at Kyanjin Gompa, a great place to try local yak cheese. Further up, we move through Nubamatang, settled in a hidden valley, on our way up to see the glaciers, which is also a gateway to Tibet. At this point, we reverse for langtang and gosaikund trek through Syabru and Sing Gompa to a high plateau, where the sacred lake of ‘Gosaikunda’ is situated.

Its holy waters are considered of particular significance during Gangadashahara and the sacred thread festival Janai Purnima when thousands of pilgrims from Nepal and India visit the area. Gosaikunda is believed to have formed from the digging of the land by the Trishul (holy Trident) of lord Shiva. Finally crossing the Laurebina pass (4600m), we descend to Ghopte and end the trek upon reaching Sundarijal. Langtang Gosaikunda trekking is an easy-moderate trek in Langtang region, reaching at an altitude of 4300m.
