The Anglezarke Amble is a Challenge Walk taking in Rivington, Anglezarke and Turton Moors, through an area known locally as “Little Lake District”. The ‘Amble’, as we call it, takes in much of the finest scenery in the West Pennine Moors and although the cotton towns on either side are relics of our industrial past, they are only seen from a distance. This is because the route of the walk is almost entirely within the watershed of the reservoirs serving these towns and is, therefore, well clear of both industry and, to a large extent, habitation.
Saturday 14th February 2026
SIS Entries, Ascend Events (TICKETS NOT ON SALE YET)
19 Miles
Comparatively low level, this undulating course is eminently runnable, but don’t let that fool you, it is still a challenging route and should be treated with respect. The location has easy access from the M6 and is at low level so is ideal for a February race.
Starting from Milnthorpe this stunning 19 mile route will take you to places that even many locals don't get to see. You will pass through Dalham Deer Park, where you would be very unlucky not to see some of the resident fallow deer and the impressive Leighton Hall. Onwards to Leighton Moss Nature Reserve where you could spot a hunting peregrine falcon before passing through Silverdale and making your way to a fantastic technical single track along the stunning coastline. An ascent of Arnside Knott follows before an opportunity to climb the Fairy Steps where you will have a wish granted if you reach the top without touching the sides. If this doesn't sound magical enough for you then the highest points offer outstanding views of Morecambe Bay and The Lakes.
Saturday 21st February 2026

Both distances are open to runners and walkers.
The Winter Traverse is not your everyday run or walk on Dartmoor; it is definite step up from our Dartmoor in a Day challenge held in September and uses a separate line.
