From ancient Epping Forest to the woods and commons around Danbury, Essex has far more variety under its trees than you might expect. I designed these seven circuits in OS Maps and/or AllTrails, walked them myself, and brought my notes and photographs together in one guide.
The walks range from a shorter circuit in Norsey Wood to a 17 km route linking Havering and Hainault Forest. My Epping Forest Oak Trail circuit follows part of the waymarked trail before making its own loop, while my extended Blakes Wood walk links neighbouring woods and commons for a more substantial half-day outing.
